Studio Calico's Park Ave // A little story...

Studio Calico's Park Ave scrapbook kit is one of my favorite kits this year, and not only because I had a chance to contribute to a few of the things in it. I really like the unique color scheme this month, with the bold colors and surprisingly, the beautiful pop of purple. The map gold scratch paper is incredible, and there's such a fun mix of cool embellishments, like that masking tape!

I thought I'd share a little behind the scenes story on how I ended up designing my first patterned paper for Studio Calico. It started with those mini badges you see in the kit. SC had emailed me a few months ago, requesting that I design some badges for this December kit. They had specifically wanted a floral image for one of the badges, so I obliged and chose a photograph I had taken in Paris.

You may recognize the photo from when I had blogged about my April trip to Paris awhile ago (entries located here & here). I can still remember the exact moment when I had snapped this photo - we were walking along Rue Montorgueil on our first day in the city, taking in busyness of this area as well as enjoying the surrounding food shops and bakeries, when I had stopped briefly to admire this beautiful bouquet of ranunculus at a Parisian flower shop. I remember still being a bit overwhelmed to be back in one of my favorite cities in the world and this was one of the first photos on my camera roll. It definitely brings back good memories.

SC asked to see the original photograph and they liked it so much that they wanted to use it as a black & white patterned paper for the Park Ave kit. I was definitely excited! I know that 'photographs as patterned paper' isn't everyone's cup of tea, so with the opportunity to design the B-side for this paper as well, I kept it graphic and clean with a simple block grid pattern. So for those of you who aren't fans of photographs as patterned papers, hopefully you'll like the B-side instead.

Seeing the In a Creative Bubble brand on actual, physical products never gets old. Whenever I get my SC kits and I know that something I've designed is included in them, I always look for that item first to see how my designs turned out in real life :)

  1. That's fantastic! First of all congrats! :)
I admit my first thought on reveal was ... b/w flowers? It's lovely to read a tidbit of how that came about.

And I do love the original picture. Thanks for sharing.
